How to Clean Your Apartment for Spring

As the winter snow slowly melts away, the weather gets warmer, flowers start blooming, and everything is new again, a lot of us feel the need to open the windows, shake out the dust, and freshen up the living space in which we call home. A deep cleaning is a great way to get yourself ready to spring into summer.

Bathroom

In your bathroom start your cleaning with vacuuming and wiping down the ceiling and walls. Dust can accumulate on them during the winter time causing dust bunnies and towel fuzz stick to them. Make sure you wash throw rugs, bath mats, sinks, countertops, showers, mirrors, windows, and floors. Having a decent toilet brush will allow for you to clean your toilet as well. Thoroughly cleaning the bathroom will minimize the amount of mold, germs, and mildew harbored in fabrics, faucets, and floors.

Kitchen

The kitchen is often called the heart of the home. Friends and family enjoy cooking and eating food in this room. That means it is imperative that it is cleaned thoroughly. Start by cleaning the freezer and refrigerator. Toss out the food that is old and expired and wipe down the inside of the whole appliance. Grease accumulates on cooking appliances, cabinets, and range hoods. Be sure to wipe down all surfaces, cabinets, and utensils. Wash window treatments and sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors. Cleaning the kitchen thoroughly degreases, “degerms” and freshens the most important space in your home.

Bedroom

Cleaning your bedroom is vital especially if you suffer from allergies. Carpets, sheets, and on other surfaces can have dust mites living in them. Start by dusting all the items in the room, and washing down the ceiling and walls. It is important to wash the linens, drapes, bed sheets, and window treatments. Open any windows to let the fresh air in, be sure you clean the inside and outside of the windows, also any mirrors in the bedroom. Finally, vacuum, shampoo, or steam the carpet.

Family Room

The family room has its share of dust and grime. Couches, carpeted living areas, and other linens can create dust. This can be made worse by forced heat during the cold winter months. Begin by dusting the ceiling fans, shelves, and book cases. Vacuum and wipe down ceilings and walls. Make sure to wipe down window treatments and sofa upholstery. It is important to dust your electronics along with the lightbulbs. If you have a natural fireplace, make sure to sweep it out. Finally clean wood floors or carpets appropriately.

Cleaning your home or apartment is never fun. It is a boring task, but once you are done spring cleaning, you will feel great. Your living areas will look fresh, revitalized, and new. The spring feeling will be felt inside and outside of your home. It is time to open your windows, take a deep breath of fresh air, and enjoy the amazing feeling of spring.
