Avoid Art Display Mistakes In Your Apartment

Putting artwork on your walls is a great way to personalize your apartment. Before you get started, it can be a good idea to review some of the mistakes people make when adding artwork in their homes.

Start With Excellent Artwork

Just because you have a piece of artwork lying around, doesn't mean you should hang it up. The key is finding artwork that adds to the room's overall decor rather than detracting from it. Also, it's a good idea to ensure that the art you want to display is properly sized for your room. You have probably seen a situation where someone has hung too small a piece on the wall, and everything else in the room looked out of proportion.

Art can often be a big investment. To improve the look in a room, you should take some time to find just the right piece of art that will nicely enhance it. If you haven't dedicated a budget for art, consider moving appropriate artwork from one of your rooms to another. While art can dramatically improve the appearance of a room, displaying a poor choice in a room can have the opposite effect.

Try A Gallery Wall

Perhaps the artwork you would like to hang is not the right size for your room. In this case, you can hang several pieces of artwork close together creating the look of a larger painting. If you do this, you're configuring a "gallery wall." Gallery walls are popular right now. They are also a fantastic way to showcase a large quantity of art pieces in the same room.

Hang Art At The Proper Height

When you are hanging artwork, always try to create a cohesive look. You should strive to achieve the right balance. This means you ought to make sure all of the artwork is properly placed at the right height. Do not hang your artwork too far above furniture, and do not put it so low that it's real close to your furnishings.

A good rule of thumb is that your artwork should be approximately 5 feet above the floor. If you want to hang a piece of very wide artwork, it if often a good idea to hang it a little higher than that. Always take the time to determine the right height before securing your artwork in place.

Consider Using Velcro

Nails and hooks are common ways to hang artwork, but those are not the only options. Have you thoughts about using velcro? An advantage of this idea is that it can make it easy to move a single piece of artwork, easily swapping it out for another piece. Velcro can also allow you to easily adjust the height of your artwork if you decide it's necessary.

Hang Your Art Securely

A serious mistake that some make when hanging artwork is failing to hang it securely. If a piece of artwork falls from the wall and impacts the floor, not only could it damage the artwork, but also the frame that is around it.

After hanging a nice piece of art, it's always wise to take some time and make sure that it is secure. Whether you decide to use velcro or hang your art in more traditional ways, always be sure that your art is firmly in place so that it stays right where you want it to stay.

By following this advice, you should be able to show off your artwork without any presentation problems. You will be able to take advantage of artwork as part of your way to personalize your apartment and make it feel more like home.
